Technology in the classroom has become predominant in the recent past. Students and teachers can research on almost anything using their mobile devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. The manner in which students interact on social media has become commonplace in most countries across the world.
According to a survey conducted by IT Trade Association CompTIA, about 75% of educators think that technology has had a positive impact on education. Furthermore, educators understand the significance of preparing students with the right technical skills so that they can enter the workforce immediately after completing their schooling. Technology has promoted efficiency in the classroom learning environment such as the classroom directions toolkit that enables students to always know what they are supposed to study so as to avoid repetitions.
The technological advancements have remarkably transformed the manner in which teachers pass knowledge to their students. While students are learning how to utilize the technological advancements in learning, teachers are also learning how to teach these students using current technologies like tablets, laptops, cameras, and smart boards. Here are the benefits of using technology in classrooms:
Makes learning interesting
Most students find it interesting and fun when they incorporate the aforementioned technologies in their learning process. It’s interesting to most students to learn using laptops and tablets. Subjects deemed boring or difficult can be interesting to students when they learn them through videos on their tablets or laptops.
Prepares students for a better future
The CompTIA study also showed that nine out of ten students showed that learning using technological methods in their classrooms prepares them strategically for the future. Technology is the order of the day in today’s age and era. Even jobs that didn’t have a digital component in their various operations have embraced digital ways of doing things. Education is not all about cramming terminologies but instead finding solutions to complex problems and being able to collaborate with others at the workplace. Therefore, techy education prepares students for this increasing digital economy.
Improved retention rate
The perceptions of most students interviewed in the study also indicated that technology helps them retain information in a much easier way. Another study that was done 18 2nd grade students on completing a Power Point project of an animal concluded that 16 students out of the 18 were able to remember almost all facts about the presentation. The study shows that students can easily remember what they learn when they use technology in their classrooms.
Students can learn at their own pace
Technology also enables students to learn at their own pace without much difficulty. Learning apps allow for individualization. Therefore, students have the freedom to learn according to their needs and abilities. It also helps the teachers to customize learning packages that can help specific students who are struggling. Moreover, even when students are not in the classroom, they are still connected in some way through technology. Most teachers have changed the manner in which they used to teach decades ago by integrating technology into the classroom environments.
